Mikhail Markhel: «We are very happy with the victory»

Belarus naitonal A-team commented on the game against Estonia.

- We are very happy with the victory. It was a close game till the last minutes. It was not easy for us, especially in the beginning of the game. The second half showed that we have character, will and people we can count on in the future.

- The team started the second half actively. Was this planned?

- We asked the players not to repeat the mistakes made in the first half and to pu up some pressure. We succeded. It is very important how the team starts the half. 

- Why did you concede a goal soon after opening the score?

- It is football. Different things happen. We also scored on the last minute. I don't have a precise answer why that happened. We had the initiative and it is good that the game went our way. It is good that the players continued to push even after conceding the goal and did not lose faith. 

- Did Estonia show the game you expected from them?

- My expectations were fully met. It is a very good team and it was difficult for us. We saw exactly what we expected to see. It was difficult t earn the win today. It makes the victory even more pleasant. I think Estonia is a team of good level. 

- What aims do you have for the upcoming friendly game against Wales?

- We have not discussed that question, but as I see it we need to give a chance to the players that were not on the pitch today. There will definitely be changes but I still have time to think.

- Soon you will face Estonia in Minsk. What are your aims for the remaining part of the Qualifiers?

- We are aiming to build a team that will be up for the task to reach the UEFA European Championship 2020. We are preparing the team for March for the fixture against Georgia. This makes the victory in Tallinn very important. We haven't won in a while so it is very important for the players and for me as a coach. I am very happy that we earned the victory. It is a good basis for the future matches and we will continue trying to win every game. 

- Do you think the Estonian team resembles the Georgian team in any way?

- I think the teams are of a similar level.
